Run #t-24hours….
Realised today that I first
registered this blog exactly a year ago proving, I guess, that there is a heavy
'New Year' motivation to blog somewhere that I'd love to deny. The rest of the
motivation is likely coming from the standard combination of crippling
insecurity and rampant narcissism that is typical of a lot of blogging I reckon.
So, short of obviously being so
desperate to blog that I have taken a year to work up to it, what is this all
about? Well the plan is to skip straight over NYE (which I loathe anyway), get
an early night (failing on that already: not an auspicious start) and tomorrow
to kick off a Run Streak. Then blog about it. As much to keep me accountable to
actually doing it, as that I think it'll provide any wild anecdotes or funny
tales.
Why a Run Streak? (And yes, I am
going to continue to capitalise it, partly to feel more like it's actually a
thing, and partly because I'm slightly addicted to inappropriate use of title
case. It's almost a sickness). Given the very recent and wildly impressive Run
Streak anniversary of the totally awesome and kudos-worthy Ron Hill (@Ronhill_UK -
not missed a day running since December 1964) you could be forgiven for
thinking that was inspiration enough. But I actually came across the concept a
few months before this when an Elle magazine journo (@amylawrenson) wrote
about hers. The growing trend has also been recently written about by the
fabulous Rhalou Allerhand (@Rhalou) for
Runners World
I'll admit, I've done precious
little research or reading around the idea since - I figure I've got time to do
that as I go along. For me, the main motivator is accountability. I can be
notoriously flaky. Once I get out, and get going, I'm mostly OK but dammit I am
SO good at the procrastination and more often than not can spend longer faffing
on the pros and cons and dos and don'ts than the actual run. So I figured,
perhaps wildly naively, that by taking the choice out of whether I go or not,
the hurdle may be largely overcome....! I know, genius right? So the plan,
starting tomorrow on the 1st of January, is to run at least 1 mile every single
day, for as many consecutive days as I can.
So here it begins. Let's see what
tomorrow brings...
